Indiana basketball will host 5-star freshman Mackenzie Mgbako on a visit this weekend, according to a report.

That’s according to college basketball insider Andrew Slater, who said Mgbako is scheduled to arrive in Bloomington later this evening.

Mgbako is a 5-star prospect and one of the top talents in the country for the class of 2023. He previously signed with Duke, but backed off of that decision earlier this offseason.

He has also visited other powerhouse programs such as Kansas during this process. He’s the No. 8 overall player and the No. 2 power forward in the country for this cycle, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Indiana basketball’s future

Indiana is looking to replace a ton of talent and production from its 2022-23 squad. Trayce Jackson-Davis and Jalen Hood-Schifino have both moved on, leaving the door open for plenty of incoming talent to join the Hoosiers this offseason.

Indiana has signed 2 high school prospects in the class of 2023 so far: 4-star point guard Gabe Cupps and 4-star combo guard Jakai Newton. Adding a player with Mgbako’s size and length — he’s listed at 6-foot-8 — would make a lot of sense.

Indiana also been active in the transfer portal so far this offseason. The Hoosiers have picked up a trio of transfer commitments, led by former Oregon center Kel’el Ware.
