After Indiana’s lopsided loss to Iowa in Week 1, coach Tom Allen said he was “concerned” about safety Devon Matthews’ injury.

It sounds like Hoosiers fans can exhale. Allen told reporters Thursday morning that Matthews is “doing well” and is expected to make a full recovery. That said, he’s still out for this week’s matchup with Idaho at Memorial Stadium.

Matthews had 40 tackles last year, which ranked third on Indiana’s roster. Overall, he has 97 tackles and 2 interceptions during his 3-year career in Bloomington. Now, Indiana has to go forward without its starting safety.

He suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Hoosiers’ season opener and was transported to a local hospital. He spent the weekend in Iowa as a precaution, according to Allen.

Indiana and Idaho are set to kick off on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET on the B1G Network.
