Indiana has added one of the state’s top five players to its 2021 recruiting class.

Thursday night, three-star defensive end Cooper Jones gave his verbal pledge to IU, becoming the second player in the cycle to commit to the Hoosiers. The native of Valparaiso, Indiana is listed as the state’s fifth-best player in the recruiting class. Jones joins Rodney McGraw, another three-star defensive end out of Elkhart, Indiana.

Jones made his announcement on Twitter.

“First off I know this is small news during these chaotic times,” Jones wrote. “I would like to announce that I have committed to Indiana University to further my academic and athletic career. I want to thank [Tom Allen] and the rest of the IU coaching staff for this great opportunity.”

According to 247Sports, Jones is a 6-foot-6, 245-pound strong-side defensive end. He’s ranked as the No. 26 player at his position and cracks the top 400 overall, coming in at No. 379.

Jones held offers from six FBS programs, most from the B1G. In addition to Indiana, the Valpo native received interest from Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Purdue and Central Michigan.
