Indiana football earns pledge from JUCO DB via 2023 class

An Independence Community College prospect committed to a B1G program on Tuesday. Independence was featured on the Netflix series ‘Last Chance U’ from 2017-2018.

Tyrik McDaniel is heading to Indiana, but can’t sign with the Hoosiers until the early signing period opens on Dec. 21. McDaniel is a 3-star DB from the 2023 class per the 247Sports JUCO ratings. McDaniel is the No. 2 player at his position from his class.

This is the message McDaniel had on his Twitter post:

“With opportunity, comes preparation,” said McDaniel. “Thank God for aligning me with my purpose. Will be signing December 21st.”

Other schools that showed interest in McDaniel were East Carolina, Charlotte, New Mexico State, Norfolk State, and Western Carolina. McDaniel recently visited Bloomington on Dec. 9.

McDaniel had 32 total tackles, 2 sacks, and 3.5 tackles for loss in five games this season with the Pirates.

Before Independence, McDaniel spent time with Old Dominion where he appeared in eight total games for the Monarchs.

Indiana will welcome McDaniel to its secondary after Chris Keys entered the transfer portal on Dec. 4. McDaniel is traveling from Independence, Kansas to Bloomington, Indiana.
