Indiana basketball had never lost to Kansas at Assembly Hall until Saturday afternoon.

The Indiana Hoosiers led most of the way but fell to No. 2 Kansas at Assembly Hall by a score of 75-71 after a furious comeback from one of the nation’s most complete squads. The Jayhawks are now 1-3 all-time in Bloomington and sit at 10-1 on the season, their lone loss coming to No. 7 Marquette.

The Hoosiers led by as much as 11 with just over 10 minutes remaining but ran out of gas late. Indiana scored just 13 points across the final 10 minutes of Saturday’s matchup.

Indiana (7-3) has not had success against top teams so far this season. The Hoosiers fell to the 2 top opponents they had played prior to Kansas; UConn and Auburn. Indiana’s best win on the year remains a 78-75 win over Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Kevin McCullar and Hunter Dickinson took this game over late. The pair combined to score 38 points with 20 rebounds and 5 assists. Dickinson finished with a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Kel’El Ware finished with a double-double as well. The standout 7-footer, who was originally listed as questionable for Saturday’s game, finished Saturday with 11 points and 15 rebounds.

It was a scrappy game, too, though some Indiana fans would probably prefer the phrase “poorly officiated.” And it’s true there were a lot of whistles in this one as the Hoosiers struggled with Kansas’ physicality in the paint. The 2 teams combined for 36 fouls called, 21 of which were levied against Indiana.

The Hoosiers look to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss against the Jayhawks this Tuesday against Morehead State at Assembly Hall.
