Indiana has its quarterback for the 2025 season in Cal’s Fernando Mendoza.

According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Mendoza committed to the Hoosiers on Tuesday morning.

Mendoza was considered to be one of the top uncommitted quarterbacks in the transfer portal. He had a great season at Cal as he completed 68% of his passes for 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

Mendoza is currently ranked as the No. 12 overall player and the No. 3 quarterback in the portal for this cycle, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s the 9th transfer to commit to Indiana so far this offseason as the Hoosiers look to build their roster for next season.

Mendoza presumably step into Indiana’s starting lineup in 2025 with Kurtis Rourke now out of collegiate eligibility. He’ll have big shoes to fill, as Rourke led the nation in passer efficiency rating during the regular season and helped IU reach the College Football Playoff.

Mendoza’s younger brother, Alberto, is a freshman quarterback on Indiana’s roster.

Fernando Mendoza will have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining at Indiana.
