Indiana has some exciting freshmen coming into its basketball program. Jalen Hood-Schifino, Malik Reneau, Kaleb Banks, and C.J. Gunn all highlight the Hoosiers 2022 recruiting class.
Reneau sat down with Dustin Dopirak from the Bloomington Times-Herald and Indy Star on Thursday to talk about what the college level has been like. Reneau was ranked as a 4-star PF out of Monteverde Academy per the 247Sports Composite.
The Indiana freshman was 1st asked about strength and conditioning in preparation for the 2022 season. He stated that he has been putting on a lot of muscle The freshman is currently listed at 6-foot-9, 235 pounds on Indiana’s basketball website.
One of the great things about being at Indiana is that Reneau gets to be around veterans like Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson. The Florida native has been working with the 2 upperclassmen on his 3-point shooting and closeouts. Lastly, he discussed how he has been working on guarding each position.

Reneau on strength and conditioning: “We’ve been putting on a good amount of muscle and the strength that we need to compete with the older guys.”

Asked Reneau what he’s learned from being around Trayce Jackson-Davis. Said he’s impressed by how Trayce controls his man in the post and get to his left hand.

Reneau said it’s tough to out muscle Race and Trayce. Said he’s had to use speed more frequently to find a way to get to his shot.

Reneau says he’s actually been working more at the 4 than the 5 and playing against Race Thompson a lot. Said he’s been working extensively on his 3-point shot and working on attacking closeouts. So there’s a lot of interesting stuff in that answer.

Reneau said a lot of his development as a player came from his parents, who both played basketball at some level. Said because of them he didn’t need a trainer for most of his youth.

Reneau says he’s getting a lot of work on the perimeter as the 4 is an outside position in Woodson’s offense. Said he’s working on guarding 1-5, handling and shooting.
