The B1G made a major move on Thursday and might not be done adding to the conference.

In a wild and drama-filled day, the conference extended invitations and officially approved the additions of USC and UCLA. Those programs will join the B1G in 2024 with speculation that the conference is seeking other programs in the expansion process.

Following the announcement, Indiana President Pam Whitten addressed the two additions in a statement to the Indy Star. Whitten called the move “welcome conference expansion” in the positive reaction.

“Indiana University is an exceptional academic university with a proud legacy of outstanding student athletes competing for the cream and crimson,” wrote Whitten in the statement shared by Zach Osterman. “Adding UCLA and UCS to the Big Ten adds both the academic peers and high quality athletic competitors that match up well.

“This welcome conference expansion will broaden the academic and competitive experience for IU’s student-athletes. We look forward to showing our new SoCal colleagues some Hoosier hospitality.”
