Michael Penix Jr. had an up-and-down career at Indiana disrupted by multiple injuries, and his time with the Hoosiers may be coming to a close.

According to a Sunday evening report, the redshirt junior is entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, meaning he would be immediately eligible if he decides to transfer out. Penix was a member of the 2018 recruiting class.

Penix’s best season came in 2020 when he threw for 1,645 yards and 14 touchdowns in 6 games played. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to injury.

He was able to rehab and get back on the field to start the 2021 season vs. Iowa. Penix struggled in 5 games played this season with 939 yards passing and 4 touchdowns to a career-high 7 interceptions. Penix once again sustained a season-ending injury, this time in a loss to Penn State.

The QB has thrown for more than 4,100 yards and 29 touchdowns in his career. He will definitely be an interesting name to watch in the portal this offseason.
