Indiana reportedly loses WR to transfer portal after 5-0 start
Indiana is off to one of the best starts in program history, reaching 5-0 for the first time in 57 years with a win over Maryland. However, that hasn’t eliminated players from entering the transfer portal.
According to multiple reports, wide receiver Donaven McCulley is entering the portal after appearing in 4 of the first 5 games of the season. Jared Kelly with Peegs.com is among those reporting McCulley’s decision.

A 6-foot-5 receiver, McCulley began his career in Bloomington as a quarterback under Tom Allen. He eventually transitioned to WR and was coming off his best season at the position after 48 catches for 644 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2023.
However, McCulley has not been a factor in Cignetti’s first season with the program. He has just 2 catches for 21 yards and a touchdown and has been bypassed by Elijah Sarratt, Myles Price, Omar Cooper Jr., Miles Cross and others in the receiving game.
In fact, the Hoosiers have 6 players with 8+ catches on the season and 4 of those players have 13+ catches. McCulley not being among those players is certainly noteworthy, but it’s unlikely the departure has an immediate impact on the offense.
For now, Indiana will prepare for a road trip to Northwestern with a shot to reach 6-0 — and a bowl game.
