Gi’Bran Payne, a 4-star running back out of Cincinnati, Ohio (LaSalle), has announced that he has requested a release from his letter of intent from the Indiana Hoosiers about 7 months after he announced his commitment. He signed to play for the Hoosiers during the Early Signing Period in December.

At the time of his commitment, Indiana had 14 verbal commitments and he was among 4 players rated as 4-star players in the cycle.

His bio was already removed from the Indiana roster by Tuesday morning.

“As a person (and athlete), I thrive and prosper off of communication and genuine relationships,” Payne wrote on Twitter. “With that said, I am looking to explore my options to ensure I am making the best decision for me and my family.”

Payne added that he was grateful and appreciated the opportunities from the coaching staff.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound back, who was recruited by Deland McCullough and Kevin Wright, received 18 offers on the recruiting front. He picked the Hoosiers over Power 5 offers from Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Wisconsin and others.

Payne is ranked as one of the Top 250 overall prospects in the class, per 247Sports Composite. He comes in as the No. 24 running back of the cycle and is a Top 10 player from Ohio.
