Coached by College GameDay analyst Lee Corso, the Hoosiers finished 8-4 (5-3 B1G) in 1979 and defeated BYU in the Holiday Bowl, 38-37.

3-8 all-time in bowl games, the 1979 win was the first bowl win in program history for the Hoosiers. The other two were the 1988 Liberty Bowl over South Carolina and the 1991 Copper Bowl over Baylor. Bill Mallory, who roamed Indiana’s sidelines for 13 seasons, was the head coach for both of those wins.

The current Indiana squad opened their season with a 34-24 win over Ball State in Muncie. Led by redshirt freshman QB Michael Penix’s 393 total yards, the Hoosiers appear to be in strong position to begin their season 2-0.
