Who says the Candy Stripes are just for Indiana basketball?

The football team is joining in on the Candy Stripes fun with some new retro alternates that were released on Wednesday. The team will rock the new Adidas look when the Hoosiers host Nebraska for homecoming on Oct. 15.

But unlike the basketball warmup pants, the football Candy Stripes will be on the shoulder pads.

Here’s a peak at what they look like (via Indiana Football):

The uniforms play on the traditional Candy Stripe look that was originally brought on by the legendary IU swimming and diving teams in the 1960s and 1970s, and was later adopted by Bobby Knight’s program in the early 1970s.

In addition to the Candy Stripe pattern on the shoulder pads and gloves, the pants will have the script “Indiana,” which is another staple of the retro look. The helmets will also have a traditional feel with players’ numbers on side each instead of the IU logo.

Will these propel IU to a win over a second ranked opponent in three weeks? That remains to be seen.

Perhaps some of that IU basketball magic will rub off on the football team.
