Joel Klatt is a caretaker of sorts for college football, because he simply loves the game. And the FOX college football analyst believes 1 program that’s been so great for the sport this fall hasn’t been taken care of, and that’s 8-0 Indiana.

The Hoosiers have reached heights not seen since the late 1960s this season in building that undefeated record under 1st-year head coach Curt Cignetti. Indiana’s student body hasn’t been counting the days until basketball season for a change. Instead, they’ve fallen in love with their football team, which is dominating opponents on a weekly basis.

The Hoosiers haven’t won any of their 1st 8 games by less than 14 points, which makes what they’re doing under Cignetti that much more impressive. So, Klatt would like to know, what gives with the AP Poll, which only has Indiana at No. 13?

“Here’s what happens in the AP Poll. And this is why the AP Poll is such trash,” explained Klatt on his podcast on Wednesday. “The AP Poll is like a NASCAR race. It matters where you qualified, so it matters where you started.”

Because of how the AP Poll has treated Indiana so far, Klatt can’t wait to see how the College Football Playoff committee deals with the Hoosiers’ surprising success.

“(The committee) is not supposed to care where anybody started,” said Klatt.

Indiana will try to add to its 2024 breakthrough on Saturday when it travels to East Lansing to face Michigan State for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on Peacock.
