Joel Klatt was in the booth with Gus Johnson in Columbus for FOX’s broadcast of Indiana-Ohio State. The Hoosiers, No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings, took an early 7-0 lead, but it was all Buckeyes the rest of the way as they won 38-15.

The big question will be how far the Hoosiers will drop when the updated rankings are announced on Tuesday. Curt Cignetti has orchestrated one of the great turnaround stories in college football this year, but his team now no longer controls its destiny in the Big Ten Championship race and, what’s more, will have to hope that the committee doesn’t penalize it too much after a blowout loss against one of the best defenses in the country.

Klatt expressed belief that Saturday’s loss shouldn’t dampen the Hoosiers’ overall resume.

“I look at this Indiana team, and you look at what they’ve been able to do this year,” Klatt said during the game. “They have been a great story in college football, they have been thoroughly dominant over the schedule they’ve played.”

In fact, Klatt took aim at Georgia’s head coach during his comments, someone who has been vocal about questioning the values of the CFP committee this season. According to the popular FOX broadcaster, Smart wants “a pass” for a loss to Ole Miss, so there’s no reason Curt Cignetti will not want a similar pass after Saturday’s game.

“Has it been great? No. But as Kirby Smart likes to argue, it’s tough to go places against great defenses in their building and win. Kirby Smart wants a pass for losing to Ole Miss, and I’m sure Curt Cignetti is going to want a pass from the committee for playing the No. 1 defense in the country here in the Horseshoe.”

Indiana, now 10-1, will finish its regular season at home against Purdue.
