This is the third-straight trip to the Sweet 16 for Sampson’s Cougars. UH made the Final Four last year. Sampson’s first trip to the Sweet 16 with Houston came in 2019. There was no NCAA Tournament in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Sampson was in the Big Ten as Indiana’s head coach from 2006-to-2008. He went to the NBA as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks and Houston Rockets while under a 5-year NCAA show cause penalty for violations with the Hoosiers. Sampson returned to the college game in 2014, taking the UH job.
