Indiana fans should remember Gunner Kiel well.

The former five-star recruit shocked everyone by committing to Kevin Wilson and the Hoosiers as a high school senior. He eventually de-commited and changed schools a few different times, but wound up getting his shot at Cincinnati.

On Thursday night, college football fans collectively held their breath for the Bearcat quarterback.

Kiel took a vicious shot to the head from a Memphis player on a broken play. He laid on the field motionless for several minutes before he was rushed to a local hospital.

The initial fear was that the quarterback could be paralyzed. But ESPN reporter Kaylee Hartung updated college football fans on Kiel’s improving condition.

Kiel was sidelined during Cincinnati’s last game after suffering a head injury, but he passed concussion protocol before Thursday night in Memphis.

No update was given on Kiel’s short or long-term status.
