McMahon family provides Indiana football with new takeaway prop
The McMahon family has a connection to Indiana football and Tom Allen’s Hoosiers program. The McMahons also produced a special gift for the team to begin the year.
During his Monday press conference, the head coach of the Hoosiers confirmed the program has a new “takeaway belt” that was a gift from the McMahon family. The belt is held up by the defense after turnovers.
Declan McMahon — the son of Shane McMahon and the grandson of Vince McMahon — is a redshirt freshman running back for the program. The family is prominently known for their ties to professional wrestling and the WWE.
This is new: IU has a “takeaway belt” that was gifted to the program by the McMahon family. Yes, that McMahon family. Declan McMahon is a redshirt freshman running back. The belt gets held up by the defense after turnovers. #iufb

In Week 1, the first takeaway of the season went to Phillip Dunnam, an interception off Ohio State’s Kyle McCord. Allen said Dunnam is a player that Indiana has challenged this offseason and is one of the most talented defensive players on the roster.
Tom Allen on Phillip Dunnam, who had an interception Saturday against Ohio State:
“It’s been very important growth. We’ve challenged him. He’s one of our most talented defensive players I believe. He was a guy we knew needed to make the next step.”#IUFB pic.twitter.com/YYBwoVVeuu— Daniel Flick (@ByDanielFlick) September 4, 2023
We’ll see how often the Hoosiers can bust out the takeaway belt this season, but it’s bound to be a fan — and player — favorite when it happens.
