Mike Woodson’s Indiana team suffered its first loss of the year against Rutgers on Saturday. The Hoosiers lost to the Scarlet Knights 63-48 away from home.

Woodson spoke about this at Tuesday’s press conference.

Woodson noted how at the end of the day Rutgers “out-toughed” Indiana. Indiana has had no problems being the tougher team until the Rutgers game, according to Woodson.

“It wasn’t that way against Rutgers,” said Woodson. “They were the toughest team. We’ve been pretty good in that area, but we got out-toughed against Rutgers so we’ve got to figure out how to not let that happen again going forward.”

Indiana can try to regain its toughness at practice, but Woodson believes that won’t do the team much help. Woodson’s comments on this were NSFW.

“There’s nothing magical in practice that you can (do). I can roll the ball out there and say ‘loose ball drills’ like Coach Knight used to do and make them get on the floor and knock the shit out of somebody. I can do all those things, but that don’t mean shit to me. You’ve gotta do it in the damn game when it counts. That’s when it counts, not in practice, knocking the shit out of each other — which we do — we beat up each other for almost 4 months before we actually got an opponent. It wasn’t too good for us in Rutgers, and I don’t like the fact we got out-toughed.”
