Mike Woodson has been impressed with his freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino.

Hood-Schifino is 2nd on the team with 13.4 points per game. The freshman is also averaging over 4 rebounds and assists. On Saturday, Hood-Schifino contributed 16 points and 5 rebounds in an Indiana win over Wisconsin.

After the game, coach Woodson was asked about the impressive guard. Check out his response below:

Q. What impresses you most about Jalen’s mindset, just the way he goes about preparing things and getting ready?
MIKE WOODSON: Well, I’m new at this, guys, and I can only go back to when I was a freshman. He’s a little ahead of the game in terms of he’s not your typical freshman. He plays like he’s been in college a few years. You know, that’s a sign of the fact that he’s gifted and he’s been blessed with the talent and he works. You know, he puts himself in that position to be good.
So I’m not surprised. I saw it his last year at Montverde when he played, he was the same way, just steady. It’s been a nice carry-over coming to Indiana wearing that uniform for us.

Woodson praised Hood-Schifino’s mindset, and said the freshman is “a little ahead of the game.” The coach also said that Hood-Schifino “plays like he’s been in college a few years.”

The Hoosiers finally got back into the win column on Saturday after losing their previous 3 conference games. The team will next travel to Illinois for another big conference game.
