Mike Woodson is contemplating retirement, according to a report.

Rumors about Woodson’s potential departure have been circulating this week, and college basketball insider Jeff Goodman confirmed Woodson’s uncertain status in a report on Thursday afternoon.

Goodman’s report says Woodson is “contemplating stepping down and retiring” as the Hoosiers have lost 6 of their last 7 games. The report also says Woodson has lost the support of “high-level boosters” at Indiana.

Lastly, Goodman says Woodson would likely still finish out the season as IU’s head coach if he does step down.

By all accounts, it’s been a disappointing season in Bloomington. IU has fallen to 5-7 in Big Ten play and appears to be on the outside-looking-in of NCAA Tournament debates. The Hoosiers also have a difficult remaining schedule which features games against Michigan, Michigan State, UCLA, Purdue and Ohio State, amongst others.

This is Woodson’s 4th season at Indiana. The Hoosiers made the NCAA Tournament during his first 2 years with Trayce Jackson-Davis leading the way, but they missed the Big Dance in 2024 and appear to be on track to miss it again in 2025.

Indiana has not yet confirmed Woodson’s intentions to step down following the 2024-25 season.
