Mike Woodson reveals moment when 'all hell broke loose' for Indiana's season
Mike Woodson has been around the block a few times in his long coaching career, both during his winding journey in the NBA ranks and now in his first college coaching job at Indiana.
After yet another loss on Saturday at home against No. 24 Michigan, which was the Hoosiers’ 5th straight setback and their 7th in 8 games, the 66-year-old who was born in Indiana and played for the Hoosiers was asked where this season all went wrong.
Specifically, Woodson was asked whether the 94-69 home loss to Illinois on Jan. 14 was the beginning of the end for the Hoosiers in 2024-25. Indiana allowed a whopping 60 points in the first half, on their home floor no less, and then a chippy finish to the game capped a terrible night that the Hoosiers still haven’t recovered from.
“You can look at it in all kinds of ways. I’m not going to even go there,” said Woodson. “I thought at that time we were playing pretty good basketball. … And then all hell broke loose. We just haven’t been the same.”

That sounds like a pretty hard declaration that the Illinois game was the turning point for Woodson’s team, and the results back that up. Indiana is now just 14-10 overall and 5-8 in the Big Ten.
“We haven’t been the same team for a while. I’ve done a terrible job putting them in the best position to win,” said Woodson.

And it doesn’t get any easier for the Hoosiers, who will travel to No. 9 Michigan State on Tuesday night.
