Mike Woodson is preparing for Indiana’s game against Purdue on Saturday in West Lafayette, and knows that fouls against Zach Edey could be a main issue. The game is set for 8 p.m. on FOX.

Purdue won the first meeting between the rivals, 87-66, on Jan. 16. Indiana’s big men Malik Reneu and Kel’el Ware each had 3 fouls in that game, and overall, the Hoosiers were whistled for 19 fouls compared to 12 for Purdue.

Fouls in Purdue games have became a growing talking point, especially after the overtime win against Northwestern in which Northwestern had 31 fouls compared to 15 for Purdue. Purdue also shot 46 free throws, compared to 8 for Northwestern.

“Maybe I need to call the officials and tell them not to call fouls,” Woodson said Thursday. “You gotta bang some with him or you’ll get embarrassed. He’s an unbelievable player and he’s better than last year.”

Coming off of a road win at Ohio State, Woodson said Purdue is such a great team in the conference is because they win both at home and on the road

“The last two years, we have won 4 games on the road in the Big Ten … it’s not easy winning on the road in the Big Ten,” Woodson said.

Woodson added that Ware didn’t practice on Wednesday after his knee buckled late in the win at Ohio State this week. The coach said he’d know more after Thursday’s practice.
