Mike Woodson’s top priority as the new head coach at Indiana is speaking with the current Hoosiers in the NCAA transfer portal.

CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein spoke with Woodson shortly after he officially landed the gig with IU. While he has plenty of priorities in front of him with his new program, he says that meeting with the players who have entered the portal is one of the things he’s focused on right now.

“They are top priority right now,” Woodson told Rothstein. “I’ve got to get with them and meet with them.”

Woodson has his work cut out for him.

Since Indiana fired Archie Miller after the B1G Tournament, six Hoosiers have entered the NCAA transfer portal. Al Durham, Armaan Franklin, Race Thompson, Parker Stewart, Jordan Geronimo and Khristian Lander all entered the database within the last few weeks. Durham is the only one to write a farewell message to Indiana.

Indiana did not lack talent under Miller, but the development wasn’t there. With Woodson’s NBA experience, he seems like a great candidate to develop players once they arrive in Bloomington.

That should be of interest to a good portion of Hoosiers currently in the portal.
