New tradition? Students are ripping out bleachers at IU's Memorial Stadium
Traditions are vital to the college football experience. Indiana students are apparently trying to establish a new one in Bloomington as the Hoosiers battle Cincinnati.
Indiana students ripped out a bleacher plank during the Hoosiers’ win over Idaho last week. Now, they’ve done it again vs. the Bearcats:
Indiana 7, Cincinnati 0 only 9 minutes in.
Apparently the new tradition at Memorial Stadium is tearing out one bleacher plank every game. Happened last week.
Great way to turn it into a Standing Room Only event, I reckon. pic.twitter.com/wvu7ENqewb— rickbozich (@rickbozich) September 18, 2021
And then they did it again:

It’s unclear what the point of this is or where this tradition is headed. However, at least it has Indiana fans excited — that looks like a full student section for this marquee game vs. No. 10 Cincinnati.
Perhaps it’s an homage to former IU basketball coach Bob Knight’s habit of setting chairs free.
In any case, it’s something to monitor moving forward. As for the game, Indiana has a 7-0 lead over the Bearcats midway through the second quarter.
