Michael Penix Jr. will have to work his way back from a knee injury heading into 2021, but that did not stop one PFF analyst from ranking him high on his list of returning quarterbacks heading into 2021.
On Wednesday, PFF’s Anthony Treash released his top-10 list of returning quarterbacks heading into 2021. His top overall selection was Oklahoma’s Spencer Rattler, but Indiana’s Penix came in at No. 5 on the list.

The start to 2020 saw a breakout for Penix with 1,645 yards passing and 14 touchdowns through six games. Unfortunately, he was injured against Maryland and missed the games against Wisconsin and Ole Miss.
Though Penix completed just 56.4% of passes in 2020, he showed his ability to deliver the ball downfield and came up big at key moments for the Hoosiers. He engineered the late win against Penn State and was electric in the hard-fought loss to Ohio State.
Even better news for Penix heading into 2021 is the fact that star receiver Ty Fryfogle will be back in Bloomington for one more season. He set career-high marks in receiving yards and touchdowns while proving to be one of Penix’s favorite and most-dangerous weapons. Hopefully the duo combines for another memorable season.
