Loyola-Chicago upset No. 1-seeded Illinois on Sunday afternoon, pushing the Ramblers into the Sweet 16 for the second time in four years.
Of course, Loyola went all the way to the Final Four the last time they were in this spot. Porter Moser’s 2018 squad ultimately fell to Michigan in the national semifinal.
After that run, Moser chose to stay with Loyola to build a consistent winner. The result? Three more 20-win seasons and potentially another deep NCAA Tournament run.
But if Moser decides to pursue a bigger job, this might be the right time to make that leap.
After the Ramblers’ victory over the Illini, fans of Indiana and several college basketball media members started to question: Why not the Hoosiers?
Indiana needs a new coach after parting ways with Archie Miller earlier this month. Moser is clearly an excellent talent evaluator and his offensive scheme puts pressure on defenses on March. Loyola’s defense is also elite, ranking No. 1 in the nation this season in points per game allowed.
There hasn’t been a lot of news out of the Indiana coaching search in the last week, but Thad Matta and Mike Woodson are two names reportedly under consideration. There will likely be more as IU’s administration casts a wide net in search of its next head coach.
Here’s a small sampling of fans and media on Twitter suggesting Indiana take a hard look at Moser.
Where is Porter Moser coaching next year? Between identifying talent and coaching, he should be able to pick his next job given this run at Loyola.
What time does Indiana reach out to his agent?

Congratulations to Indiana basketball: The NCAA Tournament just did your coaching search for you. You're not getting Brad Stevens. You're not getting Chris Beard. You can get Porter Moser there. And the dude can win there. Gotta be one of the best X's and O's guys in the game

There is nothing fluky about this. Loyola Chicago dominated the entire game. Porter Moser can name his salary at Indiana.

What a great game by Loyola Chicago! Give their players a ton of credit and what a tremendous coaching job. How does Indiana not go all in to get Porter Moser?

If Indiana doesn’t hire Porter Moser as soon as the tournament ends launch their program into the sun

It’s gonna be hilarious if Loyola beats Illinois and Indiana offers Porter Moser half the state to be their next head coach.

Mr. Porter Moser….Bloomington Indiana on line one sir.

How can Indiana watch this and not have Porter Moser at a leading candidate for the job? (They might already).

Porter Moser should head for greener pastures. #Hoosier basketball calling your name. Welcome to the basketball state #Indiana

I’m assuming the #Gophers would be competing with Indiana and more for Porter Moser.
He should be a name near the top of Coyle’s list. https://t.co/72LEki3cFC
