Not many returning quarterbacks in college football are better than Michael Penix Jr. At least that’s the case according to Pro Football Focus (PFF).

Recently, PFF released its Top 5 returning quarterbacks for the upcoming season. The Indiana quarterback was the only one from the B1G to make the cut, coming in at No. 5. Here is the complete list from PFF:

  1. Spencer Rattler, Oklahoma
  2. Sam Howell, North Carolina
  3. D’Eriq King, Miami
  4. Dillon Gabriel, UCF
  5. Michael Penix Jr., Indiana

Penix led the B1G in passing last season, averaging 274.2 yards per game through the air. He also had 14 touchdowns with just 4 interceptions before suffering a season-ending injury in Indiana’s victory over Maryland.

That injury has many wondering what Penix will look like in 2021.

There’s no question that Penix is one of the most talented passers in the B1G and has the ability to lead an explosive Indiana offense. But if he’s not at full strength, that could be an issue for the Hoosiers this fall as they look to build of back-to-back winning seasons.

During Indiana’s spring practice, Penix was limited with his workouts but is expecting to be back to 100% by the time IU makes the trip to Kinnick Stadium on Sept. 4 to open the season against Iowa.
