Clay Helton could be on the verge of losing a second running back from the 2020 roster to the B1G.

According to 247Sports, veteran USC running back Stephen Carr plans to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal at some point this week. The report suggests that nothing has been finalized, but it could be coming in the next few days.

The report also suggests that Carr, a former 5-star prospect, could be targeting Indiana as a potential destination because of his connection with new running backs coach Deland McCullough.

Before returning to IU as the running backs coach this offseason, McCullough was the running backs coach with the Kansas City Chiefs but also had a one-year stop at USC in 2017. McCullough rejoined the Hoosiers staff this offseason after Mike Hart left the program to be an assistant coach at Michigan, his alma mater.

Carr rushed for 1,329 yards and 12 touchdowns on 264 carries during his four-year career with the Trojans. He played in 35 games while in L.A. and made six starts.

If Carr does leave the program, he would be the second running back to do so since the 2020 season ended. Markese Stepp also hit the transfer portal after the year ended and has transferred to Nebraska.
