After opening the season with a 2-2 mark, including an 0-2 start in B1G play, Indiana head coach Tom Allen is making a change at quarterback. He made the announcement during his Monday press conference.

Redshirt freshman Peyton Ramsey will take over as the team’s starter moving forward, replacing senior Richard Lagow.

“I feel like Peyton Ramsey is the person (to move the team forward),” Allen said. “We will build our offense around what Peyton does best; the throws he can make, will make. We’ve got to build was we do from Day 1 around the strengths of what Peyton brings.”

Lagow and Ramsey split time through the first four games of the season, but Lagow struggled to get into much of a rhythm. He’s completed 58-of-103 passes for 661 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions. Ramsey is more of a dual-threat guy, but has completed over 60 percent of his passes and has thrown just one interception. He’s also added 117 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Perhaps the first sign of a potential change came in Indiana’s 34-17 win over Virginia in Charlottesville. Lagow was benched after completing just three passes on 10 attempts. Ramsey came in and completed 16-of-20 passes for 173 yards and had three total touchdowns in the victory.

Ramsey takes over as the Hoosiers step out of conference play one final time, hosting Charleston Southern on Saturday.
