Tom Allen comments on rating, plans for Indiana's 2023 recruiting class

Tom Allen believes Indiana will have a small recruiting class in 2023.

Allen expects the Hoosiers to bring in 12-15 players at most. If this is true, it would be a small recruiting class for next season. As the season begins, more recruits will start to choose programs and Indiana could stay away from bringing in a high volume of players to Bloomington.

Allen asked about the 2023 class. Said it's not going to be a big class. Said there are going to be positions where they only take one guy, so they're trying to be very selective. Said he knows how classes are rated and is sure this one won't be highly rated for that reason.

With Allen acknowledging a small recruiting class that will be coming in for 2023, it will be important to see how Indiana balances recruiting and the transfer portal. Indiana will likely focus on only one player for certain positions in the upcoming class. This will cause Indiana to be selective on who they bring in to the program.

Allen said he thinks the class will be 12-15 players "at the most."

The lack of recruits will result in Indiana having a low-rated recruiting class compared to other schools in the B1G. Indiana is last in the B1G and ranked 78th in the country for recruiting. This could mean that Indiana wants older players in the program or there is a desire to have a limited number of recruits who can perform immediately in 2023.

Indiana is in a position to improve after a daunting 2021 season. As the months go along, Indiana will start to fill out the 2023 recruiting class. Allen has a plan for the Hoosiers and is prepared to move forward with a smaller recruiting class than normal.
