Tom Allen explains reasoning behind decision to fire O-line coach Darren Hiller
Tom Allen talked about his decision to fire OL coach Darren Hiller in a recent press conference. Indy Stars’ Zach Osterman posted what he said on social media.
At the end of the day, Allen stated that coaches are held to certain expectations just like the players are. Allen acknowledged that college football is a results-based business. Hiller was fired after the team lost to Michigan 31-10 on Saturday.
Tom Allen won’t go into huge detail on the process behind deciding to fire Darren Hiller. Just says coaches are held to expectations just like players, and if that level isn’t met, “and you don’t get the results you want, then you make a change.” #iufb

Allen told the offensive linemen on the team in person because he knew how much Hiller meant to them.
“I told the offensive line in person on Sunday afternoon, early afternoon,” said Allen. “Wanted to tell them face to face. There were a lot of emotions. They love coach Hiller. I love coach Hiller.”
