Tom Allen tried very hard to convince WR Emery Simmons to commit to Indiana as a recruit. While he didn’t originally commit to Indiana, Tom Allen is glad to have him per Tyler Tachman of Indy Star.

Simmons was a 3-star WR out of South View High School in Hope Mills, North Carolina per the 247Sports Composite. The wideout from the 2019 class eventually went with the Tarheels instead of the Hoosiers.

Now Simmons is at Indiana, and the transfer WR is drawing rave reviews from coaches and assistant coaches alike. He had 243 yards receiving and 1 touchdown last season for North Carolina. Indiana is hoping that his work ethic is an indication of his playing level.

“Well, we loved him in the beginning,” IU coach Tom Allen said about Simmons. “We’re excited to get him, disappointed we lost him, glad to have him back. And know his parents real well and that’s kinda, you know, a uniqueness about some of these guys that you have a chance to get to know and then it kinda comes full circle, you know, so you don’t feel like you’re just getting a guy that you don’t really understand where he comes from and everything… He and I have talked a lot, I mean, he loves being here, you know, and loves the opportunity to be able to be where he initially committed to.”
