It’s been an up-and-down year for Indiana quarterback Peyton Ramsey, but the junior experienced, by far, his best game of the season against Nebraska last Saturday.

FOX Sports analyst and former college football coach Urban Meyer broke down Ramsey’s performance in a video for the Big Ten Network, specifically diving into Ramsey’s throws on the fade route.

Meyer explained that the fade is a throw that’s a lot harder than it looks and is something that offenses practice a lot of during the week in order to avoid tossing the ball out of bounds. There’s three different types of fades, but on each one, Meyer says there’s an imaginary box that quarterbacks are trying to throw the ball into.

On one of Ramsey’s two touchdown passes against the Cornhuskers, he fit the ball perfectly into that box on a fade route to junior receiver Ty Fryfogle.

“There’s only two things that can happen when you throw a ball like this — an incomplete pass or a touchdown. There’s no chance of an interception because he throws it on the back edge of the (imaginary) box.”

Ramsey went 27 of 40 with 351 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception against Nebraska. He set a season high in completions, attempts and yards in the 38-31 victory.
