WATCH: Tom Allen weighs in on receiving unsportsmanlike conduct penalty
It doesn’t sound like Tom Allen is going to change after receiving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Iowa.
Allen was flagged in the second quarter of Saturday’s game after stepping on the field following a failed 4th-down conversion. He insisted no one on the bench was talking to the officials, but that didn’t stop the flag from flying.
On Monday, Allen was asked about the penalty and whether or not it was time to “tone things down” to not draw penalties. While Allen did admit he has to be careful not to draw unnecessary penalties, he reiterated that he will continue to fight for his players on the field.
“My approach is I want to defend our guys,” explained Allen. “I don’t want to be distracted by the officials, I can’t control what they do. But I also want to stand up for our guys, and I’m not going to back down from that.”
Allen went on to joke that he will punish himself by running stadiums. Then again, who knows if Allen was joking at all about his punishment?
The BTN shared the video of Allen’s comments:
“I’m an emotional guy, and I’m going to defend our guys.”
