There was less than a second remaining Wednesday night’s Mississippi State-Georgia game when Tom Crean went from head basketball coach to public address announcer.

Georgia and Mississippi State were tied at 67-67 in the closing seconds of the SEC clash after UGA’s Tyree Crump evened the score with a late three-pointer. But on the following possession, Georgia fouled Mississippi State with 0.5 seconds remaining in the contest, sending MSU to the foul line with a chance to win the game.

Quinndary Weatherspoon missed his first free throw attempt, giving Georgia hope of forcing overtime. But a fan threw a stuffed animal on the floor, resulting in a technical foul and giving Mississippi State another free throw attempt.

Crean wasn’t too pleased.

After the incident, Crean took over the PA system, telling fans “Stay with us, don’t throw anything on the court.” The video is below:

That technical foul ended up being costly, as Weatherspoon made the free throw, giving Mississippi State a 68-67 advantage. He missed the next attempt, ending the game.

Players and coaches tried to put their team in a position to win a basketball game and it was undone by one dumb fan. That has to be infuriating for Crean, the staff and the players at UGA.

Georgia dropped to 10-16 on the season and 1-12 in SEC play after the loss.
