Iowa is getting an addition to its 2021 recruiting class via a commit that was originally scheduled to arrive in 2022.

On Saturday, 6-foot-11 center Riley Mulvey announced via Twitter that he is going to be joining the Hawkeyes in 2021 as opposed to the class of 2022 that he originally was a part of.

“Recently presented with an opportunity, I have consulted with many people and with their support, I’ve reclassified to the class of 2021,” wrote Mulvey in a note shared on Twitter. “With great anticipation, I will be joining the University of Iowa Men’s Basketball team this year! #GoHawks!”

Mulvey is rated as a three-star prospect and was the No. 27 center nationally for the class of 2022. He was also rated the No. 221 player overall nationally via the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

For Mulvey, it will be interesting to see how quickly he is able to adjust and get his legs under him for the collegiate game. With superstar big man Luka Garza heading to the NBA and Jack Nunge, a key piece to Iowa’s frontcourt, deciding to transfer, an opportunity for early playing time could be available for Mulvey.

Mulvey now joins three-star power forward Payton Sandfort on Iowa’s recruiting class for 2021. Sandfort is rated as the No. 140 player nationally for the cycle.
