Expect to see a full and rocking Kinnick Stadium when the 2021 season kicks off in September.

In a recent interview with Chad Leistikow of the Des Moines Register, Iowa athletic director Gary Barta says the school is preparing to host a full capacity stadium during the 2021 season. Last year, the B1G prohibited general fan attendance because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Iowa joins a growing list of B1G schools to announce preparations for full capacity during the 2021 season. The conference will be leaving that decision to each individual institution to follow local health and safety guidelines.

“All systems go. We are preparing for and planning for 100% capacity,” Barta told the Des Moines Register. “I say that, because the Big Ten is now (deferring) to local decision-making. The state of Iowa, we’re making great progress. The infection rates are way down, hospitalization rates are way down.

“I’m really excited.”

The Hawkeyes are scheduled to open the 2021 season against Indiana at Kinnick Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 4. They will also host Kent State, Colorado State, Penn State, Purdue, Minnesota and Illinois as part of the home schedule.
