Brandon Smith has declared he is heading to the NFL despite a rough 2020 campaign.

The Iowa wide receiver made the announcement on Sunday of his intentions to play on Sundays, following the lead of fellow wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette.

It wasn’t necessarily a breakout year for Smith, who came into 2020 with a bit of hype concerning his NFL Draft prospects. Some of that talk took a hit as he posted a career-low 10.0 yards per catch with his cumulative numbers all setting career-low marks.

In 2020, Smith had 23 catches for 231 yards with two receiving touchdowns. A season ago, he had 37 receptions for 439 yards with five touchdowns.

Iowa overcame an 0-2 start to win six straight games. Ranked No. 15 in the nation, they face Missouri (5-5) on Dec. 30 in the Music City Bowl.

Hopefully, that bowl game still happens as scheduled. Reports surfaced on Sunday that the game is currently in jeopardy as Missouri sees a rise in COVID-19 cases within its program.
