Big Ten issues statement following court-storming incident involving Caitlin Clark
Caitlin Clark collided with a fan on Sunday after Iowa’s loss at Ohio State as Buckeye fans celebrated the 100-92 decision when Clark poured in 45 points and 7 assists.
As Clark ran off the floor toward the locker room, she was blindsided by an Ohio State fan and stayed on the ground for several moments. Clark later said she was OK.
Clark after the game commented on the issue, and said it comes with the territory, and she believed Ohio State tried to do what it could, but that she also received an apology from Ohio State leadership.
On Monday, the Big Ten offered a statement about the incident, and policies around security for visiting teams:
“The safety and security of student-athletes, coaches and staff is of upmost importance. The Big Ten requires host institutions to provide adequate security for visiting teams from their arrival for a game through their departure. If adequate security is not provided, there is a process in place that begins with a private reprimand for the first offense, public reprimand for second offense, and the discretion to implement a fine plus additional penalties for a third offense. We routinely review our policy as needed to ensure a safe environment for everyone.”
