Big Ten Network's Dave Revsine visits Iowa practice, shares thoughts on passing game
The Iowa offense had many struggles in 2021, particularly in the passing game, which led to frequent punts and an inability to score in the red zone.
The Big Ten Network crew was on hand for Iowa’s Tuesday practice. BTN host Dave Revsine shared some of his thoughts on the passing game on Twitter.
Revsine said the offense was up-and-down in the passing department Tuesday. He did note positives with the tight ends and shared a highlight of a third-down conversion in a red zone situation.
TE group was really good today – will once again be a huge part of the pass game. Sam LaPorta is as good as anyone in the Big Ten. Also impressed by Luke Lachey – and Addison Ostrenga has turned heads in camp as well. pic.twitter.com/7WJuxKbTn7

Issues for the Hawks last year were in the pass game – finished 117th in the nation in pass efficiency and only 1 tm in the nation punted more. Up and down today – but definitely some good moments – Spencer Petras connecting with Alec Wick here. pic.twitter.com/cyHfoNSGvn

Red Zone a point of emphasis as well – Iowa scored TD’s on just over 40% of RZ trips last year – 3rd worst in the nation. The offense cashing in here on a 3rd down play. pic.twitter.com/YeAqgLpurs

Brian Ferentz steps into the quarterback coach’s role in 2022. Based on Revsine’s observations, Spencer Petras will likely be looking to Sam LaPorta and the other tight ends frequently, especially on third down and in the red zone.
