Cade McNamara reveals decision on playing future following 2024 season
Cade McNamara’s up and down college football career is taking yet another turn. The Iowa Hawkeyes quarterback took to social media on Wednesday to say that he will be entering the transfer portal.
His next destination will mark the third team he has been with so far, originally starting things off with the Michigan Wolverines before joining the Hawkeyes. He thanked the program and said that his time there would forever hold a special place in his heart. He took a moment to specifically thank the coaching staff in his post.
“I want to specifically thank Coach Ferentz, Coach Lester, and the entire lowa Football staff for their unwavering support and wisdom,” posted McNamara. “I will truly miss this program and state, and they will always hold a special place in my heart.”

McNamara’s college career began back in 2019, and he’s been granted an extra year of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic that impacted the trajectory of so many players across the country. McNamara was surrounded by a lot of high expectations as to how he may be able to help rejuvenate the Iowa offense after the stagnancy it had shown, but that ultimately ended up not being the case.
Multiple injuries plagued McNamara during his time in Iowa City, and he also struggled with overall effectiveness in the offense. He finished out his time at Iowa between 2023 and 2024 throwing for 1,522 yards, 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He completed 57.3% of his passes.
