Cade McNamara is not hiding how thankful he is after picking Iowa as his destination via the transfer portal. The former starter at Michigan addressed the media on Friday and reflected positively on the start of his time in Iowa City.
“I’m just really happy to be here at Iowa, honestly. I’ve been here for 7 months now and it’s just really been the best 7 months of my life,” said McNamara via Camille Gear with WQAD. “I’m enjoying my time here, building my relationships with these dudes. Everyone here has just been so welcoming to me. Now that I’ve kind of got the hang of things, I’m just really more grateful that I’m here.”
McNamara also indicated he’s reminded “every single day” of how happy he is with the Hawkeyes and at Iowa in general. “I’m not trying to lie or act like Mr. Happy all the time or be a phony,” he reiterated.
“Any time I call my parents I tell them how happy I am here. My teammates ask me how I’m doing– I’m doing great. I’m not trying to lie or act like Mr. Happy all the time or be a phony, but it’s truly how I feel. Everyone here has been so welcoming…” https://t.co/h1egJOjWup

Cade McNamara’s fresh start
At the end of the day, McNamara’s story truly looks like a talented player that was in need of a fresh start. After starting for Michigan in 2021 with 12 wins and a Playoff appearance, McNamara lost the starting job to JJ McCarthy last season.
A season-ending injury also dampened McNamara’s 2022 campaign before he hit the transfer portal. He left Jim Harbaugh’s program as a highly respected player, a fact the Wolverines reiterated during B1G Media Days.
Now happy in his new home, McNamara will get a shot to shine with Iowa this fall.
