Caitlin Clark is a true superstar icon in the current landscape of women’s basketball. That was clear once again when Clark signed a key NIL deal with Nike ahead of the 2022-23 season.
On Tuesday, the head coaches from the conference are in Minneapolis for the annual B1G Basketball Media Days. Unsurprisingly, Clark is a key topic of the day, even for rival coaches that will face Iowa.
As for Maryland, head coach Brenda Frese said Clark is a rare player for women’s hoops. Frese went on to say the Hawkeye star “Can score the basketball as soon as she steps on the court.”
Maryland coach Brenda Frese says it’s so rare to see a player like Caitlin Clark in the women’s game. “Can score the basketball as soon as she steps on the court. … Not fun to have to scout and coach against.”

Purdue head coach Katie Gearlds also touched on Clark’s abilities and admitted her presence in the B1G is a blessing. Obviously, the Boilermakers are not thrilled to face Clark, but Gearlds believes Clark’s presence “puts eyes on all of us.”
Purdue women’s basketball HC Katie Gearlds on Iowa (and new Nike athlete) guard Caitlin Clark:
“We’re extremely lucky and blessed to have Caitlin in our league. You know hate playing against her and hate game planning against her but what she does, she puts eyes on all of us.”

Now, it’s time to see if Clark can lead the Hawkeyes to a national title in 2021-22.
