CBS Sports goes behind the scenes with Iowa's strength and conditioning program
Strength and conditioning is a huge aspect of any sport. But when it comes to B1G football, it might be one of the most important areas of development for a program.
Iowa has had no trouble in that department. A program that prides itself on turning three-star recruits into NFL stars, the Hawkeyes’ strength and conditioning program has proven to be one of the strong points.
Strength coach Chris Doyle is a major reason for that, and has been since taking over in 1999, Kirk Ferentz’s first year as head coach.
CBS Sports got the chance to go a little behind the scenes of Iowa’s strength and conditioning program, looking at what Doyle focuses on and what the Hawkeyes hope to get out of that aspect of training.
Current offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs and defensive end A.J. Epenesa — both projected NFL first-round picks — also talked about the program.
Below is the video, as shared by CBS Sports. Iowa finished the 2019 season with a 9-3 record and will take on USC in the Holiday Bowl with a 10th win for the Hawkeyes hanging in the balance.
“As much as he wants you to be the best version of you physically, I think he wants to help get you to a point where you’re also a great man…" – Tristan Wirfs, Iowa OL
