College football fans, media mock Iowa for amendment to OC Brian Ferentz’s reworked contract

Nepotism at its finest?
Iowa offensive coordinator and head coach Kirk Ferentz’s son Brian Ferentz received a reworked contract amendment that offers a $112,500 bonus should the Hawkeyes average 25 points per game and obtain a 7-5 record in 2023. Iowa since affirmed that the 25 points per game designation includes defensive points too, significant because nearly 25% of Iowa’s points last season came from defensive touchdowns.
Iowa totaled just over 17 points per game last season. Ferentz’s incentive is underwhelming because it incentivizes mediocracy; 85 DI programs surpassed that mark last year.
The college football world mocked Iowa for the underwhelming incentives Monday afternoon following the original report.

In operant conditioning, to shape a behavior you want, you begin to provide reinforcement only when you get an “average or better result.”
Iowa is going to train Brian Ferentz to offense with a clicker and a bag of cash. https://t.co/8bPojSc6GG

Here’s how Iowa has ranked nationally in yards per play since 2017 when Brian Ferentz was named OC:
108th
91st
86th
86th
120th
129thYou’d think those results would lead to a change in such a competitive profession. Wonder what’s keeping him around? https://t.co/SQgypyrS5u

Man, I’d love to know how they settled on 25. Iowa was averaging 27.7 points per game during Brian Ferentz’s tenure as OC prior to 2022. Doesn’t that make the goal even funnier?

Brian Ferentz is gonna try to score 70 on Western Michigan, isn’t he? That’s how I would try to hit the goal. https://t.co/71X74wB5Tw

The amount of pressure that gets put on Phil Parker and LeVar Woods compared to Brian Ferentz is absolutely insane.
Is there any other school around the country that is like this?
