Cooper DeJean won fan vote for Super Bowl MVP, per report
Cooper DeJean won the fan vote for MVP of Super Bowl 59, according to a report.
The rookie cornerback was responsible for one of the biggest moments of the game: a pick-6 to put the Eagles up 17-0 in the first half. DeJean also registered 3 tackles in Philly’s 40-22 win.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, DeJean beat out Jalen Hurts and Josh Sweat for first place in the Super Bowl MVP fan vote. However, it wasn’t enough to give DeJean the prize, which was awarded to Hurts.
The fan vote accounts for 25% of the total vote for Super Bowl MVP. The other 75% is drawn from votes from 16 media members.
Even though he didn’t ultimately take home MVP honors, DeJean turned in one of the best performances by a rookie in the Super Bowl in recent memory. His interception of Patrick Mahomes was the first in his young NFL career so far.
Super Bowl MVP voting is not public, although one media member — Charean Williams — chose to disclose her vote. Williams voted for Sweat to win Super Bowl 59 MVP after his 2.5-sack performance.
DeJean would have been the first player to hail from a Big Ten school to win Super Bowl MVP since 2021.
