Wisconsin added its name to the growing list of teams that have no answer for Iowa star Luka Garza.
Garza had another huge night for the Hawkeyes on Thursday, scoring 30 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and dishing 2 assists in a 77-62 victory over Wisconsin. He shot 11-of-19 from the floor and converted on 4-of-6 attempts from 3-point land.
Thursday night’s performance was the seventh time this season that Garza has scored 30 points in a game. It’s tied for the most for any B1G player over the last 10 years. Purdue’s Carsen Edwards also had seven 30-point nights during the 2018-19 season, per BTNStatsGuys.
It was also Garza’s 12th time scoring 30 points in his career with the Hawkeyes, good enough for second-highest in program history.
With another stellar outing to his name, ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale made the comment that Garza is a “lock” to be the National Player of the Year. He was the preseason favorite to claim the honor, and has lived up to the hype.
Garza is averaging 24.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 blockers per game in his senior season at Iowa. He’s shooting 56.3% from the floor and a staggering 45.1% from 3-point range. Garza has also collected nine double-doubles on the year.
Iowa is 16-6 on the season and 10-5 in the B1G.
