After an 0-2 start, Iowa went on an impressive run to finish with six straight victories in 2020.

Going into the 2021 season, Iowa is being tabbed by the Sporting News as the second best team in the B1G West behind Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, ESPN’s Football Power Index  offers its own analysis. Here is a look at every game on Iowa’s schedule in terms of win probability:

  • Sept. 4: vs Indiana – 61.1% (W)
  • Sept. 11: at Iowa State– 25.1% (L)
  • Sept. 18: vs Kent State – 93.3% (W)
  • Sept. 25: vs Colorado State– 93.2% (W)
  • Oct. 1: at Maryland – 64.0% (W)
  • Oct. 9: vs. Penn State– 49.1% (L)
  • Oct. 16: vs. Purdue – 69.5% (W)

  • Nov. 20: vs. Illinois– 85.6% (W)
  • Nov. 26: at Nebraska – 57.6% (W)

Typically, those win probabilities would have Iowa with an 8-4 record. However, the FPI formula is predicting an overall record of 7.6-4.6, because they expect some of those close games to go against the Hawkeyes.

Since Kirk Ferentz has been coach dating back to 1999, Iowa has posted 17 winning seasons.

Iowa’s season opener vs. Indiana will be Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m. EST and televised on the Big Ten Network.
