Executive Director of Reese's Senior Bowl praises early work of Iowa's Brandon Smith
Brandon Smith’s numbers may not jump off the page, but he is still one wide receiver that should get a lot of attention during pre-draft workouts this offseason.
Through three games this season, Smith has nine catches for just 88 yards with two touchdowns. In his career, the senior has 898 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
Among other things, Smith battled injuries during 2019. Combine that with the fact that Iowa puts a premium on running the ball and utilizing the tight ends and it is not hard to see that Smith’s numbers do not tell the full story.
Listed at 6-foot-2, Smith has the length teams love in NFL receivers. He is also incredibly athletic and has turned in some great catches over his time with the Hawkeyes.
On Monday, Jim Nagy weighed in on Smith’s status. Nagy is a former NFL Scout who serves as the Executive Director for the Reese’s Senior Bowl, and he expects Smith to show off his explosiveness in the pre-draft process.
Check it out:
Stats might not show it but one prospect emerging early in Big Ten season is @HawkeyeFootball WR Brandon Smith. Batted thru injuries last year and looks more athletic & explosive in 2020. Staff expects him to post 40-inch VJ at nearly 220 lbs this spring. #TheDraftStartsInMOBILE pic.twitter.com/8T0F2hf1zj

Hopefully Smith finishes the season strong and goes on to impress in the weeks leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft. It will be interesting to see where he winds up to begin his NFL career.
